The talented midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi has officially completed his transfer to Parme in Italy’s Serie A, following the club’s decision to activate his purchase option. The American international leaves Miami after a season disrupted by injury, securing a permanent deal valued at just under $5 million.
Cremaschi, who joined Parme on loan earlier this year, made only nine appearances for the Serie A side before suffering a meniscus injury in March—a setback that cut short his campaign. His exit provides Miami with greater financial flexibility going forward.
From loan to definitive deal
The transfer became official when Parme exercised its option to make the move permanent, converting a €4 million clause to secure Cremaschi’s services until 2025. A product of Inter Miami’s youth academy, the 22-year-old was named Young American Player of the Year last season and has earned three caps for the United States national team.
Limited impact in Italy
Despite his promising profile, Cremaschi struggled to find his rhythm at Parme. His integration coincided with the arrival of Argentine star Rodrigo De Paul, and the American midfielder found himself battling for minutes. While he made his debut in October, his appearances remained sporadic before injury ultimately halted his progress.
A frustrated departure from Miami
Cremaschi’s decision to leave Miami was not without controversy. Frustrated by limited playing time and questioning the team’s tactical approach under manager Javier Mascherano, he publicly voiced his discontent in August: ‘I’m frustrated; I want to play. My priority is to compete at the highest level, and for that, I need game time and experience. I haven’t played much recently, and I don’t believe it’s due to my performance.’
His comments came amid speculation over his future, leading Miami to arrange his loan abroad in hopes of securing more opportunities for the young star.
Miami’s potential transfer reshuffle
Cremaschi’s permanent exit could open doors for Miami in the transfer market. Reports suggest the club is eyeing former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, currently a free agent, to bolster its ranks. With an extra roster spot now available, Miami appears poised to make a high-profile addition to its squad.
