The Senegalese Constitutional Council has definitively upheld Ousmane Sonko’s presidency of the National Assembly, rejecting opposition challenges that questioned the legitimacy of his return to Parliament. The court ruled it lacked jurisdiction over the matter, closing the case permanently.

Sonko, who was dismissed as Prime Minister by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye at the end of May, swiftly resumed his role as a deputy before securing the Assembly’s top position through a parliamentary vote.
