Sonelgaz advances 40 MW power plant project in N’Djamena

A high-level delegation from Sonelgaz, led by its International CEO Yazid Djellouli, has arrived in N’Djamena to kickstart the 40 MW power plant project. This initiative aligns with Algeria‘s commitment to deepen energy partnerships with Chad, as outlined during President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno‘s official visit to Algeria in April.
The delegation met with key officials including Tahir Hamid Nguilin (Chad’s Minister of Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning and International Cooperation) and Passalé Kanabé Marcelin (Chad’s Minister of Water and Energy), alongside representatives from Tchad-Elec. These discussions highlighted the project’s strategic significance in enhancing bilateral economic and energy cooperation.
project preparation and technical coordination
The working sessions focused on establishing a common roadmap and bilateral teams to ensure smooth coordination before technical site inspections. Key objectives include:
- Evaluating site infrastructure and grid connection feasibility
- Ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory standards
- Defining priorities for the preparatory phase
The team will conduct comprehensive site studies to assess existing infrastructure, analyze grid integration possibilities, and verify adherence to quality and efficiency standards ahead of construction launch.
sustainable energy partnership goals
This project represents Algeria and Chad‘s shared vision for sustainable energy development. Sonelgaz brings its expertise through knowledge transfer, technical capacity building, and practical solutions tailored to Africa’s energy needs. The partnership demonstrates both countries’ commitment to fostering long-term energy collaboration and supporting continental development goals.
