The foundation stone for the reconfiguration of Yaoundé’s drinking water supply network was laid on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in Minkoameyos. This project aims to sustainably improve access to clean water for several localities in Cameroon’s capital and its outskirts.
The official ceremony took place at the esplanade of the Yaoundé VII town hall in Minkoameyos. It was chaired by the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, in the presence of Camwater’s Director General, Dr. Blaise Moussa, along with government members, the diplomatic corps, local elected officials, and civil society representatives.
Prescribed by President Paul Biya, this key project aims to strengthen drinking water supply for the populations of Yaoundé, Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok, and Mbankomo, particularly those not yet connected to the network or suffering frequent interruptions.
Non-domestic subscribers—including industries, schools, and hospitals—are also among the primary beneficiaries of this initiative.
For the success of this project, Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba urged all stakeholders to work hand in hand and in perfect synergy to facilitate the execution of services on the ground. For his part, Camwater’s Director General assured that his institution would spare no effort to support and ensure that any possible constraints for the realization of this important project are lifted for the benefit of the populations of Yaoundé and its surroundings, whose needs continue to grow daily.
