The Prime Minister of Algeria, Sifi Ghrieb, arrived in Niamey on Wednesday for an official visit aimed at deepening cooperation between the two nations. Ordered by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, this mission underscores a shared commitment to advancing strategic partnerships across multiple sectors.
The Algerian delegation includes the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, alongside the Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation and Solidarity Development.
During initial discussions, the two Prime Ministers assessed current bilateral relations and explored ways to expand collaboration in key areas. The talks centered on accelerating development projects and strengthening partnership initiatives between Algiers and Niamey.
A major highlight of the visit is the inauguration of a 40-megawatt power plant in the Gorou Banda district of Niamey. Funded by Algeria as part of its commitment to supporting Niger’s energy infrastructure, this project reflects the country’s dedication to fostering stability and growth in the Sahel-Saharan region.
The new facility is expected to bolster Niger’s electricity production capacity and enhance energy supply to several areas of the capital. It stands as a tangible example of Algeria’s support for its neighbor’s development goals.
The agenda also includes a meeting between the Algerian Prime Minister and the President of Niger, where future cooperation frameworks and regional and international issues will be reviewed.
This official visit follows a period of increased political and economic engagement between Algeria and Niger, as both nations reaffirm their dedication to strengthening ties for the benefit of their populations.
