Algerian prime minister starts official visit to Chad, launches power plant project

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, on a mandate from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, arrived in N’Djamena on Monday for an official visit aimed at strengthening fraternal bonds and deepening cooperation and partnership between the two nations.

The head of government was accompanied by State Minister and Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Mourad Adjal, Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development Abed Hallouz, as well as several senior executives from national companies operating in the hydrocarbons, energy, and electricity sectors.

Upon landing at N’Djamena International Airport, Mr. Ghrieb was greeted by his Chadian counterpart, Prime Minister Allamaye Halina, along with several members of the Chadian government and high-ranking officials.

Following the welcome ceremony, the two prime ministers held a bilateral working session. They reviewed the progress of the exemplary ties between Algeria and Chad and exchanged views on ways to give fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation and expand its scope. This reflects the shared will of both countries’ leaders to elevate fraternal relations and cooperation to broader horizons serving the mutual interests of the two brotherly peoples.

Foundation stone laid for 40 MW solidarity power plant in N’Djamena

During this visit, the Prime Minister, together with his Chadian counterpart, presided over the ceremony to lay the foundation stone for an Algerian-Chadian solidarity power plant in the Farcha industrial zone of N’Djamena, with a capacity of 40 megawatts.

The project will be executed by Sonelgaz International as a donation from the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to sisterly Chad, in line with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. It reaffirms Algeria’s unwavering commitment to supporting sustainable development processes in brotherly African countries while consolidating the values of African solidarity and cooperation through structural projects with a direct impact on economic and social development.

The Prime Minister will also hold consultations with Chadian President Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno regarding prospects for strengthening the Algerian-Chadian partnership, as well as key regional and African issues of common interest.

This official visit to Chad is part of the positive and growing momentum characterizing Algerian-Chadian relations, materializing the common determination of both countries’ leaders to raise bilateral cooperation to higher levels and reinforce economic and development partnerships.
