Banda Kani hits back at Elimbi Lobe, calls him a small-time politician without national reach

In an interview on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, the national president of the Nouveau Mouvement Populaire (NMP) expressed strong criticism of Elimbi Lobe, describing the Sunday debate participant on Info TV as notoriously inconsistent.

Cameroonian politician Banda Kani is deeply angered by tribal agitator Elimbi Lobe. During an interview published on his page on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, the NMP leader voiced his frustration with Elimbi Lobe, particularly after the latter labeled nationalist figure Ernest Ouandié a “bandit” on Info TV, a Yaoundé-based television station.

“By calling Ouandié a bandit, Elimbi Lobe has dishonored himself,” declared pan-Africanist Banda Kani. He argued that Elimbi Lobe will never achieve the stature of a strong political leader. “He has reduced himself to a good-for-nothing. He has become a political actor who will never have national reach in this country. He has shrunk to a small-time canton politician, pursuing a strategy to become a deputy,” Kani added.

When he was with the SDF, could he have made such statements?

Drawing on history, Banda Kani highlighted Elimbi Lobe’s inconsistency, pointing out that his discourse shifted after leaving the Social Democratic Front (SDF). “He is following an electoral strategy. Look at his history. Take his own words from 2011 when he was in the SDF. He praised national integration and the role of the Bamiléké people in nation-building, even saying his best friend was a Bamiléké to whom he wanted to give his son’s name,” Kani continued.

“In 2015, he denounced tribalism. When he was in the SDF, could he have made such remarks? The party would have stopped him. You are dealing with a small politician who thinks that being elected deputy will be the pinnacle of his political career,” Banda Kani concluded.
