Morocco aims for 26 million tourists by 2030 after record year

Morocco’s tourism sector reached a historic milestone in 2025, welcoming nearly 20 million visitors and generating 138 billion dirhams in revenue. The positive trend continued through the first five months of 2026, as confirmed during the board meeting of the national tourism office (ONMT) held on June 24 in Rabat.

Chaired by Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor and ONMT Director General Achraf Fayda, the session reviewed sector performance and progress toward the ambitious goal of attracting 26 million tourists by 2030.

International arrivals rose by 7% through May 2026, while tourism revenue surged 21% and hotel nights in classified establishments increased 9%, according to data presented at the meeting.

Fatim-Zahra Ammor stated that the 2023-2026 roadmap proved that simultaneous action on air connectivity, promotion, investment, quality, and regional development enables Morocco to scale up and compete with top global destinations.

Air capacity for the 2026 summer season reached 7.74 million seats, up 13% year-on-year, supported by new airline bases in Rabat, Marrakech, and Tétouan, as well as the launch of 52 new international routes during the first half of 2026.

Looking ahead, the board identified key priorities to sustain the 2030 target, including strengthening air links, diversifying source markets—particularly in China, India, and Latin America—developing maritime routes and cruise tourism, and progressively integrating artificial intelligence into marketing and commercial operations.
