The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have declared a decisive shift in momentum, asserting full control over regions previously targeted by attacks from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated organization, in central and southern Mali.

In a formal statement, FAMa officials confirmed that intense clashes persisted on Sunday in Anifif, located in the northeast of the country, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. This followed the arrival of additional fighters and equipment dispatched to support the Azawad Liberation Front.
The military communiqué highlighted the resilience of Malian troops, stating: « In response to this renewed aggression, our forces advanced with unwavering determination, engaging in sustained combat throughout the day with discipline and valor. » The statement also reaffirmed the army’s « absolute confidence in its capacity to safeguard national unity, protect civilians, and dismantle hostile forces. »
FLA leadership denies reports of losses
The Azawad Liberation Front’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier claimed control over Anifif following the resumption of hostilities. He categorically dismissed rumors regarding the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, insisting that the commander remains actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali.
