President Macky Sall calls for peace and national stability
After several days of intense unrest sparked by the detention of opposition figure Ousmane Sonko, President Macky Sall addressed the nation this Monday evening. The legal proceedings against Sonko, centered on a morality case, have led to a sharp escalation of tensions across the country.
In his televised statement, the Sénégal Head of State made a firm appeal for restraint. He emphasized the necessity of moving away from the logic of confrontation, urging citizens to choose peace over civil strife during this volatile period.
New economic measures and curfew adjustments
Beyond the call for civil order, Macky Sall announced strategic changes to the current health and security restrictions. To support the national economy, the curfew has been significantly reduced, now effective only between midnight and 5 a.m. This adjustment aims to facilitate business activities that have been hindered by recent events.
Regarding the ongoing legal and social friction, Justice Minister Malick Sall also provided insights into the government’s perspective on the current crisis. He addressed the complexities of the situation and the state’s efforts to manage the fallout from the opposition leader’s arrest while ensuring the judicial process remains independent.
