Sonko mourns loss of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké in Senegal

In a heartfelt tribute, Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, conveyed his profound grief over the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. The spiritual leader’s death occurred this past Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The announcement was made through a poignant message on Facebook, where Sonko honored the late religious figure’s legacy and extended condolences to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese population.

« I was deeply saddened and overwhelmed with sorrow to learn of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké,» Sonko wrote. « He was the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, a man whose spiritual guidance and wisdom left an indelible mark on our nation. »

The President of the National Assembly also reflected on the warm encounters he shared with the late guide during his visits to Guinguinéo. « On multiple occasions, I had the honor of meeting Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké. Each time, his kindness, hospitality, and unwavering warmth left a lasting impression on me and my team,» he shared.

In this « moment of profound sorrow », Sonko extended his « most sincere condolences » to the late leader’s family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, the religious community of Guinguinéo, and all Senegalese citizens. « May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise,» he concluded.
