Algeria and Chad formalized a landmark agreement on Thursday in N’Djamena, outlining streamlined procedures to fast-track joint infrastructure and public works projects.
This landmark deal reinforces the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations and builds on groundwork laid during high-level talks in April. According to a joint statement from the Algerian Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, the pact aims to remove bureaucratic hurdles and accelerate project implementation.
Trans-Saharan highway study takes off in Chad
The agreement was signed by Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Abdelkader Djellaoui and Chadian Minister of Infrastructure, Unblocking, and Road Maintenance Amir Idriss Kourda. The signing occurred during a coordination meeting in N’Djamena, held on the second day of an Algerian delegation’s official visit to Chad. Key participants included the Director-General of Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation and Solidarity Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and senior executives from Cosider and the National Public Works Company (SNTP).
On the Chadian side, the meeting was attended by the Minister Delegate for Infrastructure and senior officials. During discussions, the Chadian minister emphasized the “remarkable momentum” driving bilateral implementation, highlighting tangible progress since the April 22 agreement in Algiers. This progress includes reciprocal technical visits and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan highway project, which will traverse Chadian territory.
