Burkina Faso security assessment in Nayala province reveals progress

The Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, acting on instructions from President Ibrahim Traoré, conducted an evaluation mission in the Nayala province on Sunday. The visit aimed to assess security developments, boost morale among deployed forces, and gather insights directly from local communities.

Key objectives of the assessment

The minister’s itinerary included evaluating security conditions, motivating frontline personnel, and addressing the concerns of residents who have endured prolonged instability. This hands-on approach reflects the government’s commitment to transparency and community engagement in crisis zones.

Meetings with local leaders and security forces

Accompanied by the regional governor of Bankui and local administrative officials, Minister Sana first met with traditional leaders in Toma. Subsequent discussions involved provincial administrators and service chiefs, providing a platform to highlight ongoing challenges in critical sectors such as healthcare and education.

Mobility constraints for public servants in certain areas were also identified as a persistent obstacle to service delivery and governance.

Recognition and calls for unity

During the tour, Mahamadou Sana met with representatives from the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), Dozos, and community leaders. He conveyed the President’s commendation for their efforts in regaining control over previously disrupted areas and facilitating the return of displaced populations.

The minister emphasized the need for continued vigilance, discipline, and cohesion within the security apparatus. He underscored the vital role of collaboration between civilians and security personnel in sustaining gains against terrorism.

Community feedback and regional impact

Residents in Kougny and Gassan expressed appreciation for the government’s initiatives to restore safety and enable village repopulation. Their feedback underscores the tangible effects of coordinated security and development efforts in stabilizing the region.

Vision for long-term stability

Following the visit, Mahamadou Sana affirmed that the security landscape in Nayala has improved, thanks to effective cooperation between communities and security forces. He reiterated the government’s unwavering resolve to consolidate peace and stability not only in Nayala but across Burkina Faso.
