The Alliance pour la République (APR) has voiced profound outrage over the detention of its member Pape Malick Ndour, linked to a court-ordered custody in the PRODAC case.
In an official statement, the party led by former President Macky Sall accused Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko of orchestrating what it calls a «hostage-taking», labeling him the «mastermind behind this judicial maneuver».
Questionable legal basis for detention
The APR argues that the charges stem from a disputed 2018 report by the Inspection Générale des Finances (IGF), despite Pape Malick Ndour’s appointment to PRODAC only occurring in June 2019. The party dismisses the IGF report as «a weak and contradictory document», claiming it lacks the rigorous scrutiny required for judicial proceedings.
«The allegations are based on a non-contradictory forensic accounting report that distorts reality,» the statement reads. «This provides no credible legal foundation for the judicial sequestration of an upright citizen who served with excellence as PRODAC coordinator.»
Systematic use of detention in politically charged cases
The APR condemns what it describes as a «systematic recourse to pretrial detention» in cases where fair trial guarantees appear compromised. It highlights concerns over decisions that «rest on flimsy, unchallenged, or demonstrably false evidence,» warning that such practices undermine individual liberties and democratic principles.
The party stresses that this situation raises broader questions about the presumption of innocence, the right to defense, and the protection of public freedoms. «We cannot allow our democracy to normalize the criminalization of opposition and the intimidation of political leaders,» the APR insists.
Unwavering support for Pape Malick Ndour
The APR pledges «total, unreserved, and unwavering support» to Pape Malick Ndour, his family, and legal team. It calls on all party members—militants, activists, and officials—to remain «mobilized, vigilant, and united» against any attempt to undermine democratic foundations or curtail fundamental freedoms.
The statement holds the Government solely responsible for any harm—physical or moral—inflicted upon Pape Malick Ndour and demands his «immediate and unconditional release».
The APR concludes by reaffirming its commitment to standing alongside all victims of injustice, «with the unwavering conviction that justice will ultimately prevail over arbitrariness.»
